LETāS GET ACQUAINTED.
Arwa Zakir Kakavand
Hello, Iām Arwa! My yoga journey is a testament to the transformative power of mindful movement and intentional breath. With over two decades of dedicated practice, my path through yoga and meditation has been deeply personal and profound - a journey that is equal parts humbling, healing, and empowering.
As a human rights attorney, I bring a unique perspective to my yoga teaching. In 2020, I completed a trauma-informed 200-hour yoga teacher training through OG Yoga, driven by a mission to provide myself, my colleagues, and my clients with essential tools for nervous system regulation and self-care.
My teaching spans diverse settings, including children's camps and after-school programs, studio classes, wellness retreats, and corporate wellness sessions.
Through my practice and teaching, I continue to honor my roots and create spaces that support holistic well-being, bridging my professional advocacy work with the transformative practices of yoga and meditation. My approach to yoga is rooted in inclusivity and authenticity. Together with my colleague Kate, we endeavor to create a welcoming community that honors individual experiences and encourages practitioners to arrive exactly as they are.
Kate Borunda
My name is Kate Borunda. I have been practicing meditation and yoga since I was in high school. It has helped me through every difficulty I have faced in life and informed me through my growth and resilience.
I studied mindfulness and yoga during my undergraduate studies in humanistic psychology at Sonoma State University and my graduate work in psychology with an emphasis on consciousness and spirituality at Saybrook University. I trained in Integrated Movement Therapy through the Samarya Center in Seattle, Washington.
I have been honored to lead classes for children, teens, and adults since 2012 in San Diego, California. In 2020, I enriched my training by completing the OG Yoga Trauma and Diversity informed 200-hour training, followed by an OG yoga internship; then, I was hired on to a yoga teacher position at OG Yoga.
Through my training and work at OG Yoga, I had the opportunity to meet and team up with my colleague and partner, Arwa. Together, we hope to bring a variety of wellness opportunities to the community, to share our gifts with others, and to humbly learn and evolve with our community members.
